Marble Stealth Table

Enrico Marone Cinzano continues to lead in furniture design innovation through the use of repurposed materials.

From the Designer:

"I continue to explore the connection between Nature, sustainability, and technology through my new project Stealth. The process began by creating a shape that could be replicated in different versions by means of making products which exist in different time periods. The first is a small coffee table crafted by hand entirely in locally recovered wood, utilizing age old Piemontese techniques in terms of joinery, without the use of anything that could be deemed toxic to the environment. Interestingly, this table could have been made 500 years ago, as everything about it is local to the Torino area and natural. I then expanded the concept with a larger version of the same shape, by making a coffee table in recycled aluminum that is treated to withstand scratches and topped with a marble called Zebrino, carved in Tuscany and coming from a batch of leftover materials. This latter product is very contemporary, both in terms of design but also in terms of bearing in mind the production of something which is sustainable in its processes. This completes my first presentation on the Project Stealth: next I will present a for a futuristic interpretation made exclusively for Rossana Orlandi, to be presented in Fall 2017, which will include the latest technologies to show the proper evolvement that all products should have."-- Enrico Marone Cinzano

Cool Summer Meals: Quinoa 'Tabbouleh'

Nobody wants to cook anything in this scorching August weather.  Here's how to alleviate that problem with minimum time over a stove.  While not technically 'Tabbouleh' by use of the grain, Quinoa can add a twist plus more protein to this great summer dish.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup tri-color Quinoa
  • 4 cups diced cucumbers
  • 4 cups diced tomatoes
  • 1 diced whole red or white onion
  • 4 fresh squeezed lemons
  • 2 cups chopped flat parsley or cilantro
  • 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 cup Balsamic vinegar

Instructions:

Bring (1) cup of tri-color Quinoa to a boil in a small pot (rule of thumb: 2:1 Water / Grain ratio) simmer it down until moist.  Remove from heat and let cool, spoon into large mixing bowl.

Add diced ingredients along with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and lemon juice to taste.  Let chill in refrigerator at least one (1) hour before serving.

Restored: Elvis' BMW 507

A fabled BMW 507 once owned by Elvis Presley, has been found and restored to Concours condition by BMW Group Classic.  Driven during his military service in Germany in the 1950s, the legend of Elvis and his cars had begun.  The car was discovered after it was feared to have vanished forever for a period of over 50 years.  The original white paint job was resprayed in lipstick red to solve the issue of female fans scribbling notes in lipstick on it.

Elvis replaced the car with a Chrysler in New York after his service in Germany, the car was sold for the ridiculous price of $4500 dollars to radio moderator Tommy Charles, who went on to race the 507 successfully in numerous races including Daytona, which by then had been swapped for a Chevrolet engine and gearbox.

Space engineer Jack Castor had taken ownership sometime later, using the car as a daily driver then into storage with the intent of restoring it.  Castor had put together a thorough record of the car, it's history, repairs, and photos; a full dossier.  It was only after a meeting and visit by a writer working with Bimmer magazine when the possibility of this being the fabled 'Elvis 507' was discussed.  After some forensics and research, Chassis No.70079 was indeed found to be the genuine article.  BMW Group Classic had heard of this unbelievable find and set to work.

The car was sent to Munich, carefully disassembled, stripped down to the bare metal; structural reinforcements were made to restore rigidity and overall integrity.  The original 3.2 litre V8 was refurbished to new conditioned and reunited with the car after 50 years.  It was reconditioned to exact manufacturer specifications right down to the original paint color of Feather White.

The BMW 'Elvis 507' will be on view at Pebble Beach Concours this month on August 21st.
